Let's Get Fancy

Don't you love wedding season?  I DO!!!  I love getting dressed up and lookin' fly (that's right...I said fly.  Early 90's yo.  Word.), and the great thing about the East Coast is there seem to be a plethora of black tie weddings here.  People like to do it up right!  I found this dress at Marshalls and was a bit worried about the color because it's not quite red, not quite pink....but it turned out to be juuuuuuust right.  Easy top knot on the hair and some ultra simple accessories...I was ready to get my champagne on!

And let's all agree that Craigy looks just fabulous in a bow tie.  I made fun of him at first....but I love it!  It suits him!

Purple Fever

Warning...these are the most inconsistent in quality pics ever.  Just so you know.  It was a rush out the door...

...but I've got a case of the Purps…

Ew…doesn’t that sound like a horrible disease?  It is in a way….because I have a fever…and the only prescription…is more colored denim.

Blouse: BP at Nordstroms; Cardigan: Forever 21; Jeans: Target; Shoes: Steve Madden (Gifted); Watch: D&G; Necklace: Forever 21

YES!!! I know!!! I’m late to the band wagon!!!  But it stopped, and I jumped on.  So what.  I have been eyeing the denim at Target for awhile now, but I’ll be honest…when I held up my usual size 6 I thought “Oh no way in hell.”  Remember now, I ran a marathon about 6 weeks ago…which means my butt and my thighs are not skinny and wee.  They are thick and athletic.  So “skinny jeans” that are truly SKINNY do not work so well.  But when these babies went on clearance…I just had to try them on.  I got over the number conundrum and went up to a size 11.  Yup…11.  And guess what?  I didn’t stop there!!  I grabbed a 13 too.  And you know what?  I like the 13’s.  THAT’S RIGHT PEOPLE!!!  I SAID 13!!!!  Let me tell you why:

1) My legs can fit into them.  Yes they need to desperately be hemmed because my 5’2” frame does not support a size 13 length in leg….but my legs fit into the skinny of the skinny jeans.
2) The rise is higher.  Although I fit into the 11’s, the 13’s kinda came up a little higher to make me feel not so self conscious about muffin top and baby belly pooch.  Remember my post of fit and flattery?  I wasn’t proud of the NUMBER, per se…but I enjoyed the way they fit better. And they are a bit loose, but it’s nothing a little nip and tuck and belt won’t fix.  On the jeans…not….me.
3) They were purple.  They make me feel fabulous.  I. LOVE. THEM.  So no matter what the tag says…when I put them on I feel great!  And besides…I tried on a 6 in a different pair of jeans and they fit too….it’s just what you get from a less expensive (I don’t want to say cheap…oops…just did….) brand: inconsistency.

So I’m fully onboard with the colored  jeans.  Bring me some cobalt, peach, and maybe a hint of pink.  I love ‘em all!

Target Boodle!

I notice a lot of girls use the word "Haul" to describe their shopping sprees.  Oh don't get me wrong...I love it and I love hearing about it.  I just wanted to use a different word.  So yes...I did a thesaurus search.  The thesaurus is seriously one of the most underutilized tools out there.  So this is what it came up with

  • load
  • loot
  • gain
  • goods
  • spoils
  • swag
  • boodle
  • booty
  • plunder
Most of these sound like I'm a pirate if I use any of them.  I guess it's appropriate since whenever I find myself getting a good deal I run to the checkout waving my arms yelling ARRRRGGHHH!!!!!  With happiness of course.  Argh with happiness.

So imagine me picking up a prescription at Target (sigh...for my little boo boo's....2 ear infections, 2 kids, 2 weeks...it's been a tough month) and casually walking over to the clearance section in the beauty department.  Do you guys skeeve clearance makeup?  I totally DO NOT.  It's AWESOME!!!  Check out my loot!  Or swag...whatev....

Nothing you see here was over $4.00.  AMAZING!

The first thing I picked up was the mascara, mainly because I desperately needed mascara.  It's Almay and it has a 3 click system...one of full, fuller, and fullest.  I have only used full...and it does the job.  I am going out this weekend to a party so I'll turn it to fullest to let you guys know what the deal is there.

Then I saw this overnight foot cream.  Hey why not.  I just did a bunch of shoe perusing and since spring is coming up, my feet could sure use some sprucing up.  Training for this marathon certainly has done a number on my tootsies and I want them to look excellent for the sun when it decided to peek out!  So far it's been great!  I feel a slight little tingle and my feet definitely feel softer after a couple days use.

Then, as any girl should have this as a basic in their makeup routine, I picked up this Neutrogena sunscreen. However...this claims to have a "matte" finish...and it does!  I would say that this could almost double as a primer!  It's moisturizing and protection and doesn't leave my skin at all greasy.  It creates a nice matte base for foundation!  I think I love it!

This is from the Boots line and it's a lovely shade of sheer red.  Love the polka dots on the cap too!

I got this Burts Bee's hair conditioning treatment.  I have been DYING to get my hair cut since, like, November...and can never find the time and the babysitter's and my hair girl's time to coincide.  So...if I'm going to look like Morticia Adams...at least my hair can be healthy.  Only 2 bucks people...

I picked up this Rimmel foundation...mainly because it came with this free primer, and because I had a coupon.  Ha!  I'm so cheap.  I'm not partial to foundation, and I guess I only attribute that to not coming across one that I'm like "ohmygodthishaschangedmylifeidon'tknowwhati'ddowithoutthis."  Much like Italian food.  Most restaurants taste great to me...but if you ask me to tell you which is best...I really don't know...it's hard to mess up lasagna....

So that's my boodle, my swag, my haul, my bounty!  You gals score any great deals lately?

Color from the Block

Well...I'll be honest.  This was the outfit I WANTED to wear last weekend...but after it dumped a little bit of snow and a lot of ice on us...big heavy boots were more called for.  So instead I just dressed up for the sake of dressing up during my kids nap time.  What.  You guys don't do that?  You should.  I believe in playing dress-up just as much as an adult as you did when you were a kid.  It's too fun not to!  This sweater I totally stole from my mom's closet when I was visiting California.  That place is like a thrift store** in itself...she keeps EVERYTHING.  I actually found a bright pink blazer that I loved...but the 80's Dallas style shoulder pads were not happenin'.  She's taking them out for me, though!  Hooray for free clothes!

This is also being featured on Marionberry Style today for her color blocking challenge!  I feel so honored!  Have you all read her blog yet?  She is one of the most funny, sweet, and genuine bloggers that I have come across in both my fashion and DIY home blog worlds.  And let us not forget she also has killer style!  Check it out here!

** Note: I want to clarify something....my mother's closet is not like a dirty, dingy, dusty, ugly thrift store.  It is more like a boutique of vintage treasures.  I like/love/want everything in there...and have stated so above...so CLEARLY I did not mean that in any negative way.  I just meant that there is a lot of cool stuff in her closet that is free for me.  I apologize if I have offended anyone or given anybody the wrong idea.  Again...it is a collection of wonderfully enchanting goods, a treasure trove of high quality pieces, a plethora of beautiful items.  Ok...I hope that is somewhat cleared up.**

The Deets:

Skirt: Target
Tights: Target
Shoes: Target (I think...they are old)
Ring: Vintage (mom's closet)
