Let's Get Fancy

Don't you love wedding season?  I DO!!!  I love getting dressed up and lookin' fly (that's right...I said fly.  Early 90's yo.  Word.), and the great thing about the East Coast is there seem to be a plethora of black tie weddings here.  People like to do it up right!  I found this dress at Marshalls and was a bit worried about the color because it's not quite red, not quite pink....but it turned out to be juuuuuuust right.  Easy top knot on the hair and some ultra simple accessories...I was ready to get my champagne on!

And let's all agree that Craigy looks just fabulous in a bow tie.  I made fun of him at first....but I love it!  It suits him!

Mama's Night Out

Dress: Marshalls; Bracelet: vintage; Shoes: Gifted
Craig and I got to go out last Saturday night.  No not movies, not dinner….like…OUT, out.  My sister in law (Craig’s sister) turned 40 and we tried to partied like rock stars!  Uh huh…oh yeah.  We went down to Atlantic City, had a lovely and filling dinner at the Continental (I love this place), and went to a club.  Holy lord I haven’t been to a club in years and I felt so old and out of place.  I know 32 isn’t that old…but I guess as my tastes have “matured” I realize I’m way more of a bar person…or at least a “place with tables that don’t cost $300 per person” person.
And let’s talk clothes. I had the hardest time figuring out what to wear. I wanted to go sexy and sassy, without flashing the bubbies or booties.  And I haven’t bought a “going out” dress since PRE WEDDING.  How long ago is that, you ask?  Or maybe not cuz you don’t really care…but it was 5 years ago my friends.  My first born was a honeymoon baby…so there was really no newlywed period.  And then the whole next year was losing the baby weight…and then we started the whole cycle over again with my second kid. And that’s taken me twice as long to lose that weight.  So…I’ve now started to accept my body and get my groove on and I feel like this dress does me just fine!  I also think it brought me a bit of luck because I randomly saw one lone Casion War table on our way out and won $50!!  That’s right!!!  If you all have never played Casion War….play.  It is mindless.  Remember the game war?  High card wins?  That’s it…..genius….

Nights Out

One of the great things about visiting my family and friends in California is I get a little break from the kiddos!  I was lucky enough to get 2 nights out with my best girlfriends after my little guy went to bed (with the g-rents making sure he wasn't running around upstairs naked...as it's been known to happen).  As it's in the 20's in NJ at night, I wasn't positive how to dress for CA.  The first outfit, with my girl Megan, I think would have been really cute without the tights.  And I can't tell if it's the angle of the camera that's making my legs seem super short, or if it was the mirror I was getting ready in that made me think my legs looked really good.  Anyway...I felt cute in my Grellow colored sweater.  But something about this worked when trying it on at home and then was off when actually putting it into application.  And of course...I didn't have time to really do my hair as it was a bathe-the-little-butt-and-get-him-in-bed-so-I-can-go-out kind of night. But isn't my little Megan so totally adorable?  She is this cute ALL the time....I know...we were roommates once...

The next night I got to go out was with my chicky, Heather.  You guys saw her when I featured her here.  This was kind of an unexpected going out event, so I worked with what I packed in my suitcase already.  It's nothing spectacular...but I felt great!  Easy pieces, worn in a casual way.  And we munched alot and drank some..so the oversized sweater was quite perfect.  And doesn't Heather look fantastic too?  I was loving that scarf she was wearing with the owl print.  If it wasn't tied around her neck, I totally would have stolen it...

And don't you just love the homecoming-esque picture in front of the piano?  It was like my parents go to back drop and prop for when we were little.  Apparently when we are not so little as well!

Sparkle in the New Year

DSC_1393

What a way to ring in the New year….first my littlest of littles got a case of the stomach bug on Thursday.  Then…poor me caught it on FRIDAY…the night before New Years Eve.  Are you kidding me??  Thankfully, it was a 24 hour deal, so I still got to spend the evening at my neighbors house NOT eating, NOT drinking, and barely staying up until midnight!  Thankfully, my neighbors are the coolest people ever and let me lounge around in my sweats and sip ginger ale.  So the next day when we were going to my husband’s cousin’s house for a new years day dinner…I had to get a little sparkle on.  Still didn’t get to eat as the stomach wasn’t totally healed…but at least I have already lost a few pounds in the new year!  HA!  Check that one off the resolution list!

Danger..Stripes Ahead

So we talked about horizontal stripes in my Monday Momma feature of my friend Heather here.  She looked ab fab in this horizontally striped maxi dress...that I thought I'd give it a try myself.  I saw this dress on clearance at Old Navy and hesitated just because of the old adage of horizontal stripes making you look fat.  But, at 30% off a clearance of $7.98...how could I not just get it to TRY it out, right?  So I sacrifice a Grande Skinny Peppermint Mocha to get a dress.  And it wouldn't hurt to save those extra calories when wearing this anyway.  After wearing this to a holiday party out with the hubs, I have to say that this is truly one of my favorite pieces.  Not only is it flattering, but it's so comfortable, yet bold with all the colors.  This is def worth the $5.50 I paid for it and then some!

Weekend Outing

DSC_0878
This last weekend we decided to take a little jaunt to Atlantic City.  The Hubs and I wanted to take his sister out for a night on the town, and we basically needed it as well.  Although it was clearly without the little peanuts, I wasn’t feeling my tip-toppiness and wanted to be cute, but comfortable.  Welcome large knit sweater!  I was warm, I felt good, I still got to wear my “Gaga” shoes (that’s what the Hubs calls them), and I was most of all super comfortable.  Perfect for lounging and knocking back a few martini’s!
